Shop With a Cop is a cherished tradition where local law enforcement officers partner with children in need, or children whose lives have been impacted by law enforcement, for a special holiday shopping experience. Held during the Christmas season, the event is designed to give children a positive and memorable experience while also helping meet some of their needs.
Children are selected with the help of school counselors and community organizations, often based on financial hardship or special circumstances. Each child is then paired with a police officer who accompanies them on a shopping trip. With funds generously provided by donations, sponsors, and police foundations, the children are able to purchase holiday gifts, winter clothing, or essential items.
After shopping, everyone gathers at a central location where the officers and children wrap the gifts for the child’s family. Volunteers and officers prepare a holiday dinner, which is shared with the children and their families. The evening is filled with festive cheer—often including music, a visit from Santa Claus, and the warmth of a community coming together.
At its heart, Shop With a Cop is about more than just gifts. It is about building trust, creating positive memories, and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community’s youth. Children see officers in a caring and supportive role, and officers gain a unique opportunity to connect with families in a meaningful way.
